Located in the fertile bottomland of lower Cow Creek near the base of Old Piney Mountain, Riddle took it´s name From William H. and Maximilla Riddle who settled in this area in the fall of 1851. The Riddles were among the earliest settlers on Southern Douglas County and found the fertile meadows, stands of oaks oak and pine, and the potentials of the region too enticing to continue their journey to the Willamette Valley.
